Steam is the lifeblood of process plants — and the hardest fluid to meter honestly. Its state changes with pressure and temperature, and its velocity profile is unforgiving. Here is how YOYI recommends getting it right with the YYVT vortex series.

Why steam punishes careless metering

Steam energy content depends on both pressure and temperature. Metering volumetric flow without compensation can distort your energy accounting by 10-20% when boiler pressure drifts. The YYVT series solves this with integrated temperature and pressure compensation, outputting true mass flow (kg/h) for saturated and superheated steam alike.

Installation rules that actually matter

Keep at least 15 pipe diameters of straight run upstream of the bluff body (or use a flow conditioner). Mount the meter so the steam always stays in the vapor phase — avoid low points where condensate collects, and keep the meter out of dead legs. These two rules eliminate the majority of vortex meter complaints we see in the field.

Watch the turndown

Steam demand varies dramatically between summer and winter, or between shifts. A YYVT meter's 20:1 turndown ensures your meter stays accurate during weekend low-load periods, when energy waste quietly peaks. Pair the meter with YOYI's Modbus output and you can watch the night-time base load — the first place to hunt for savings.
